We’re proud to share that FlameStop has been named a finalist for the Fire Protection Industry Awards Innovative Product & Technology Solution Award.

This nomination recognises our commitment to innovation and sustainability through our long-running Extinguisher Recycling Program, and in particular, the development of a new solution to repurpose ABE extinguisher powder into liquid fertiliser.

For more than 15 years, FlameStop has helped customers recycle extinguishers once they reach the end of their service life. Our team manages the entire process, from safely discharging units through to dismantling them and separating materials so they can be reused wherever possible.

Today, up to 95 percent of an extinguisher can be recycled through the program. Steel is recovered, brass components are reclaimed, and other materials are sent through the right recycling streams.

One of the biggest challenges has always been ABE powder, which has historically had very limited disposal options in Australia. In many cases, it ended up in landfill or was sent overseas for treatment.

That’s what led us to develop a better solution.

We’ve created a process that converts recovered ABE powder into a safe liquid fertiliser. After extensive testing and review, it’s now being used in agricultural applications to help grow healthy crops here in Australia. It’s a practical way to reduce waste and give a difficult material a new purpose.

Being named a finalist is a fantastic achievement for our team and a great recognition of the years of work that have gone into improving sustainability outcomes in our industry.

We’d also like to congratulate the other finalists. It’s great to see so much innovation happening across the fire protection industry, and we’re proud to be recognised alongside others doing great work.

We’re looking forward to celebrating with everyone at Fire Australia.
