Transformer Rooms
Transformers connect medium-voltage generators to the high voltage power system. Mineral-oil-filled power transformers are at risk for fires typically caused by overheating or y short circuits, structural or equipment failures in the oil reservoirs, and lightning strikes. Transfomer fires are rare, but the impact is great. When a transformer is involved in a fire, it has the potential to be a total loss. . The fire’s effect on adjacent equipment and structures can be mitigated and therefore must be considered. Many of these rooms were designed to be staffed and are unattended today. As you can imagine, a fire when allowed to spread can do a significant amount of damage and result in a prolonged and unscheduled outage.
Stat-X® fire suppression systems are an excellent solution for protection of the transformer room. Containing the fire to the specific room helps reduce risk to adjacent equipment, reduces risk to personnel, and limits collateral damage. This 24/7 automatic system is suggested for manned and unmanned rooms.
