VESDA VLF multiple point air-sampling technology works by utilizing a highly efficient aspirator that continually draws air into its laser detection chamber via a pipe network. Accurate assessment of the air sample using calibrated detection and long detector life expectancy, are assured with a patented dual stage filtration process that both eliminates background ‘noise’ and preserves the optical integrity of the laser technology with its clean air bleed. The result of which is an unchallenged detection process able to provide reliable and consistent very early warning smoke detection performance across a diverse range of applications.
The VESDA VLC aspirating smoke detector is available in two versions, one that interfaces via relays only (RO) and one that interfaces via relays and VESDAnet (VN). The VESDA VLC-EX detector has been specifically designed to provide all the benefits of ASD for the protection of hazardous applications with Zone 2 classification.

Built on the Flair detection technology and years of application experience, VEP detectors achieve consistent performance over their lifetime via absolute calibration. In addition, the VEP delivers a range of revolutionary features that provide user value. VEP sensitivity range is from 0.005-20%/m (0.0016-6.25%/ft) and provides up to 40 Class A holes. VEP is equipped with a powerful aspirator that provides a total of 130 m (427 ft) in the one pipe model and 560 m (1,837 ft) in the four pipe model.
Using unique detection principles, the VLP has an alarm sensitivity range of 0.005%–20% obscuration/m (0.0015%–6.25% obscuration/ft). The detector can form part of a modular system with the display, programmer and VESDAnet modules installed in a remote location or as a “self-contained” system by replacing the detector’s panels with display and/or programmer modules. With the display and programmer remote, the user interfaces for many Xtralis VESDA VLP detectors can be grouped together in a cabinet for easy programming.
This configuration enables a single VESDA zone to be divided into four separate sectors, for example, distinguishing between separate voids within a room. The VLS locates the origin of smoke by identifying the first sector (pipe) with the highest level of smoke and then continues to sample from all sectors to monitor fire growth. The VLS provides four alarm levels for each individual pipe (Alert, Action, Fire 1 and Fire 2). Sector factors (sensitivity) can be set individually to ensure the optimal alarm thresholds are applied for each sector. An extra LED indicates when the first alarm sector has been established.

The XCC offers cost effective normal sensitivity aspirating detection making it ideal where an ASD is needed to overcome the limitations of point detectors. The XCC provides support for flexible ASD pipe network designs to meet the needs of a wide range of environments. When smoke is difficult to detect due to high ceilings and other factors, XCC’s active sampling provides reliable protection. Maintenance access difficulties can be avoided by positioning the detector at ground level or outside the protected area.
