8th September 2022: Transformation of the beast – September Rally Update

Wow! It’s only 38 days until we participate in the Shitbox Rally charity event to raise much needed funds and awareness for the Cancer Council. In our previous update, we shared photos of our $1,000 “shitbox” car we purchased to drive in the rally. Fast forward to now and our Holden has had an extreme makeover!

We are pleased to reveal the before and after shots (please see below). What a transformation our beast has had! It’s quite hard to believe this is actually the same car. It’s amazing what a bit of colour and design work can do. Hopefully this makes us go faster! There is plenty of room up top for our camping gear and we are really hoping the extinguishers don’t need to be used on the car engine.

A big shout out to the fantastic team who have helped pull all of this together to make us look good and stand out whilst we are on the road. Oh and if you were wondering, the air-conditioning still doesn’t work, but we still have a bit of time.

So far we have raised just over $10,000 to this wonderful cause. Donations are still being accepted and anyone wishing to make a contribution can do so here: https://spring2022.shitboxrally.com.au/flamestop-australia/donate

As always, thank you for your support and stay tuned for the next update!

27th July 2022: Update on our upcoming charity rally

It is just under 3 months until we embark on our journey from Mackay to Darwin for the Shitbox Rally in October. We are really excited and starting to get prepared for the tough adventure ahead. We would like to thank each individual and company who have made very kind donations so far. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading your words of encouragement next to your generous donations. Please keep the donations coming because money raised goes towards Cancer research and trying to find a cure for this dreaded disease.

It's with great pleasure we can now share with you photos of our Holden VT Commodore we bought for $1,000. This V6 classic is an absolute beast and will be our desert warrior. The interior photos clearly show the 20+ years of life it has lived. The air conditioning currently does not work… so hopefully we can use some bush mechanic skills to get this working before the trip! Neither Ben or myself have any camping or bushman skills or experience so that could be a worry! With over 320,000 km's already on the odometer, we are praying the car can hold up for another 3,342km, which is what we have to travel to complete the rally!

We will be ‘pimping' up the car – so far we have 3 bobbleheads for the dash. With all of the sun in October these bad boys won't stop moving. We are just hoping our car also doesn't stop moving and makes the distance!

That's all we have for now but stay tuned for our next update which will include our transformed car. We have some serious fundraising to do, so please make a donation so we can achieve and exceed our goal.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you to those who have already generously donated! Stay tuned for further updates as they prepare for the event.

22nd March 2022: FlameStop are Fundraising to Support Cancer Research. Ben and Rob will Team Up in a Charity Car Rally.

In October this year our own Ben Parkhill and Rob Glover will set off on a 7 day charity event known as the “Shitbox Rally”. For those unfamiliar with the Shitbox Rally, it’s a long-distance motoring event run in Australia as a fundraiser for cancer research charities. The event is officially endorsed and supported by the Cancer Council.

The challenge faced by Ben and Rob is to drive a car only worth $1,000 across numerous dirt tracks and river crossings. Only 2WD drive cars are allowed on the rally, so Ben will need to leave his 4WD Landcruiser at home. The journey will see the boys’ drive 3342kms from Mackay to Darwin via Savannah Way. Of a night time they will camp in harsh terrain with the risk of being attacked by snakes, crocodiles and the good old “Aussie drop-bears”  All of this is in good fun, but more importantly in the name of charity.

Many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another. Between now and the rally in October we are starting to fundraise. All donations count, big or small and are 100% tax deductible. We would really appreciate your support. Please be sure to leave some words of encouragement or travel tips for the boys when making a donation. We don’t believe either of them do much camping, so they will need all of the advice they can get!

Over the coming months we will learn more about their vehicle of choice and if either of the boys have any camping or mechanical car experience. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next update!
