The Risk: Disastrous Fires in Onshore Oil and Gas Refinery Operations

With the flammable chemicals, gases, and materials used in the oil and gas industry, fire protection is a priority. Controlling fire hazards is a critical part of ensuring worker safety on extraction, refining, and other sites. Proper fire protection will help to minimize the risk of injury & lost production, as well as assets in general.

The congested layout of these complex facilities make fire protection more challenging. The pipes and structural elements provides many floors of obstructions. Processing equipment is typically installed close to each other.

Most petrochemical facilities implement a fire protection plan. Even with safety programs in place, incidents can still happen. Most oil and gas fires start in engine or machinery spaces, electrical controls, or in areas with flammable gases, vapors, and/or chemicals near hot surfaces, static electricity energy, friction heat, and workers performing hot work, such as welding, which may be exposed to combustible or flammable materials. Such locations are typically hard to reach making firefighting difficult.

Today, experts specify fire protection that is effective but also meets requirements for space and weight, quality and cost, and low maintenance. These qualities are all found in Stat-X® fire suppression systems. It’s why Stat-X is the best solution for the demanding oil and gas environment.

Advance preparation with a plan in place is the best approach. Are you prepared?

The Solution: Stat-X Fire Suppression Advanced Technology

Stat-X aerosol fire suppression is a versatile and cost-effective solution for oil and gas fire protection. Each sealed, stainless steel generator contains a solid, stable, and specially formulated fire suppression compound unmatched in the industry.

When a fire occurs, the Stat-X generator activates, producing and releasing an advanced aerosol fire suppression agent. Agent fills the protected space and chemically interrupts the combustion process. Fire is suppressed, and the micron-sized agent particles remain suspended to help keep the space protected from possible re-flash.

Versatile Applications

Stat-X generators come in a range of compact, rugged, non-pressurized units. Modular design allows configuration by mixing and matching units to protect a variety of spaces, from small to large.

Electrically actuated models work with popular linear, aspirating, or spot detection and control systems. Thermal and manual actuation models require no external power source to operate.

Economical and Safer

Compared to traditional pressurized gas or chemical agent piped systems Stat-X advanced technology is economical to install and own.

No special storage space or distribution piping is needed. And since the Stat-X agent is generated only when the system actuates, you don’t have regular agent level inspections or containers to weigh and hydro-test over the years.

When discharged, the aerosol agent remains buoyant protecting the space longer. Afterwards, the area can be vented with no harmful by-products generated. Spent Stat-X units are simply replaced, and the system can be restored.

Stat-X agent is also safer for people, equipment, and the environment. Unlike many conventional fire systems, it doesn’t work by depleting oxygen or by releasing ozone-harming chemicals.
